17th WFTGA Convention held in Tehran
Iran Hosting 17th International Convention of World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations in Tehran from January 28 to February 1.
The ceremony officially opened on Saturday 28 Jan 2017 in the presence of President Hassan Rouhani.
Addressing the opening ceremony of 17th WFTGA Convention, President Hassan Rouhani counted tourism as a bridge between countries. He asserted that tour guides could connect nations, cultures and civilizations.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Taleb Rifai and the Vice-President and Head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Zahra Ahmadipour attended the opening ceremony, too.
The event brings together over 314 attendees from 35 countries with the slogan of “Iran; Friendly Faces, Open Arms, Ancient Cultures, Timeless Charms” and will run until 1th February.
The attendees visited the cities of Qazvin, Zanjan and Hamedan during the pre-convention tour on January 25-27. And the post-convention tour will take them to the cities of Shiraz, Yazd, Meybod, Isfahan and Kashan from 1th Feb to 6th Feb. They will visit the most important world heritage sites during this 6-days tour.
Guide Association delegates of the three countries Georgia, Thailand and United States attended the 2017 convention in Tehran as 2019 bidders to represent their own country and make their pitch for the conference to win the bid to host this great event.
Among these bidding countries, Georgia succeeded to win being the next convention host.
